Sewstainable
Sewstainable is an organisation I created to educate the younger generation around the importance of ethical and sustainable fashion for my Capstone Project 2018. This is a community where you are able to connect with other individuals through local meet ups and events. You are able to learn about the importance ethical fashion and learn more about ethical fashion and through workshops.
The fast fashion is the second biggest pollutant in the word below the oil industry and isn’t often addressed. In fact we as consumers are mostly oblivious to how much waste we actually produce, including how much goes into making what we consume. We now buy 400% more clothes than we did 20 years ago and with the estimated number of fashion purchases predicted to continue to dramatically rise, this is something we can no longer afford to be ignorant about.
I see this earlier education as a necessity to create change in consumer’s behaviour, rather than trying to convince people to change their pre-existing ones. This is something that we need to start educating individuals on before they start to unknowingly support something they wouldn’t otherwise.
I created up-cycled awareness campaign encompassing the nature of the brand. The poster is all made from second hand materials. The poster has an interactive element too revealing more about the fast fashion industry than you’d see beyond the surface when you unzip it.
The main aim of my project is to create awareness around the topic and inspire others to rethink the way they consume or dispose of their clothes. Not just being aware of where their clothes come from, but also realising that they can be changed into something new or repurposed.
